about

***EN FRANÇAIS PLUS BAS***

Better Way is a cry from the heart of a young father desperately trying to balance out family life and financial obligations with a career as an up-and-coming artist.

Having said what he had to say in the first verse, Gab Padilla reached out to fellow Montreal hip hop artist Scynikal to complete the song. A young and devoted father in the rap game himself, Scynikal delivered a heartfelt 16 bars in no time.

So I roam and we talk on the phone
But f*** a FaceTime Daddy why aren’t you home
I wake up every morning and you’re already gone
S*** it feels like me and Mommy we be livin’ alone

Produced by Gab Padilla and engineered/mixed by Fabrice Jean, Better Way is a live hip-hop recording reminiscent of Anderson Paak and The Roots. Conscientious and compelling lyrics set to a chill and happy vibe bring the listener to a laid back, stress free state of mind.

About Gab Padilla

****OPENING FOR THE LEGENDARY SOULS OF MISCHIEF CREW IN MONTREAL JUNE 14TH 2023****

Gab Padilla is a hip hop artist with a unique background ranging from blues to reggae.

After a few years of busking across America, he settled in Montreal, working as a blues guitarist and a hip hop DJ.

He soon met his spouse, with whom he had his first child. In the midst of the COVID pandemic, the trio relocated to a small country town a few miles north of the Vermont border.

These days, Gab regularly records feel good hip-hop singles which will be released on a 8 week rotation. But his blues chops are never too far away.

So I roam and we talk on the phone
But f*** a FaceTime Daddy why aren’t you home
I wake up every morning and you’re already gone
S*** it feels like me and Mommy we be livin’ alone

lyrics

There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way, shit
There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way, shit

(Gab Padilla)
Ruminating while I’m driving to the end of the world Making ends for my boy and my girl, while my head swirls My heart is heavier that the load
From the stress and pressure
Make it work together
Provide food and shelter
Dreams of being a home owner
Makes it hard for a nigga to be home longer
So I roam and we talk on the phone
But fuck a FaceTime Daddy why aren’t you home?!
I wake up every morning and you already gone Shit it feels like me and Mummy we be livin’ alone I’m only four years old Daddy, I ain’t grown
So tell me why is it that you makin’ me feel on my own Son, I feel you
I hear you
You need me, I need you
But, sometimes shit gets difficult man
I’m working hard so we can have a brighter day But, there ought to be a better way

There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way, shit
There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way, shit

(Scynical)
I just think that there’s gotta be a better
Way to get communities and families together
Know what it is we just focus on the cheddar
Across our back was our parents with the leather
And they had their belts
For sure we got welts but it helped
Cause some of us could help ourselves
I know I felt
All the pain and all the sadness
From all my brothers killed and slayin’ in the streets for madness I swear
It just builds in the chest
I don’t care what you say dawg I’ll be the vest right here
And everywhere I stand cause I’ve been through Shit that would’ve fucking drowned you and found you Swinging back and forth nigga I’m brown blue
I give a shit dawg
I never be a cause
Could never catch a loss
But I know that I stay on top
And focus on finding a better way
There ought to be a better way
There ought to be a better way There ought to be a better way, shit There ought to be a better way There ought to be a better way There ought to be a better way There ought to be a better way, shit
